Longtime Alamosa resident Mildred “Millie” Charlotte Martin, 97, passed away peacefully at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Alamosa on September 11, 2018.

Millie was born in Alamosa, Colorado to Millard Payne and Lula Inez Cooley Payne, she was the 9th of 13 children. She owned and operated Millie’s Hobby Hut in Alamosa for more than 25 years. Millie was a fiercely independent woman and worked hard her entire life.

She loved raising animals, cooking for family and gardening. She was very close to her family and was always there for them. She also enjoyed hummingbirds. In her later years, as she slowed down she enjoyed watching the game show network on television and playing along.

Millie is survived by her grandson Michael Hartmann of Alamosa; her great-grandsons Erich and Connor Hartmann of Thornton, Colorado; her son-in-law Ronald Hartmann of Alamosa; her nieces, nephews and cousins Carol, Sandy, Barbie, Gordon, Willard, Carolee; as well as numerous extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Debbie Hartmann, her brothers and sisters Lillie, Willard, Millard, Walter, Lula, Luther, Cecil, Sarah, Willie Elizabeth, Francis Clarabell, George and Charles Payne.

A visitation will be held at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa on Sunday, September 16th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and Monday morning, September 17th prior to services at the Alamosa Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 927 Weber Drive from 9:45-10:45 a.m. with services following at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place in the Alamosa Cemetery following the funeral.
