Obituary for Precious Carter Snyder

Longtime Del Norte and Alamosa resident Precious Carter Snyder, 84, passed away January 2, 2015 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs.
Precious was one of nine children born to Walter Edward and Eva Jane Brown Carter in Barnsdall, Oklahoma. She was born on December 20, 1930. Precious met Ray Snyder as a young child, and they grew up knowing one another’s families. They were united in marriage on June 19, 1948 in Borger, Texas and enjoyed the adventures their four children brought into their lives.
Precious worked alongside her husband in his home construction business for many years as his bookkeeper and secretary. She was also an accomplished seamstress and created many different home furnishing accents and articles of clothing for herself and her many beloved family members. Precious treasured the time spent with her extensive family and especially enjoyed the countless Carter reunions held on the Fourth of July for many years.
In her early years, Precious volunteered as a cub scout mother and leader. She especially loved to travel and see the world. Trips with her husband Ray and friends to Germany and Alaska were among her favorite and most memorable trips. After vacationing in the mountains for many years, she and Ray decided to make the mountains their permanent home and moved to the San Luis Valley 27 years ago.
Precious is survived by her husband Ray Snyder of Alamosa; her children Jaynell Trosclair of Scott, LA and Timothy (Cyndi) Snyder of Alamosa; her sisters: Margie Norman of McKinney, TX, Fabrice (Roy) Cribbs of Mustang, OK, and Marylyn Anderson of Shawnee, OK; her sister-in-law Ann Carter of Victoria, TX; her grandchildren: Summer Hance of Houston, TX, Drew Deshotels of Gulf Shores, AL, Nicholas (Jessica) Trosclair of Youngsville, LA, Timothy (Sarah) Trosclair of Lafayette, LA, Tracie Trosclair of Scott, LA, Yurie Polk of Gulf Shores, AL, Dusty Polk of Foley, AL, Lezanne (Eric) Proctor of Foley, AL, Bradley Polk of Gulf Shores, AL, Douglas (Brittany) Polk of Foley, AL, Timmy Snyder of Gulf Shores, AL, Stevie (Levi) Crane of Gulf Shores, AL, Nikki Cazantzes of Gulf Shores, AL, Jesse Cazantzes of Bon Secour, AL, and Crystal (Josh) Johnson of Lynnwood, WA; her 17 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her children Suzanne Snyder and Stephen Snyder; her brothers, sisters, and in-laws: Emilie Turner and her husband Hansel, Gerald Carter and his wife Lorene, Ed Carter, Jr. and his wife Evelyn, Sterline Joyner and her husband A.P., Frankie Potter and her husband P.B., Harold Norman, Frank Carter, Andy Anderson.
A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8th at the Rogers Family Mortuary, 404 Morris St., in Monte Vista. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2015 at the Gateway Baptist Church in Del Norte. Interment will follow services in the Del Norte Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
