Obituary for Betty Jo Gilbreth

Alamosa resident Betty J. Gilbreth, 82, passed away November 24, 2014. Betty was born January 11, 1932 to Johnnie E. and Ione Rice Lockhart at College Station, TX. She married Richard J. Gilbreth at College Station, TX on September 18, 1950; and they have enjoyed over 64 years together.
Betty attended Clifton High School, Tarleton State College, Clarendon Jr. College and received a B.S. degree from West Texas A&M University. Betty was an educator, teaching at Lakeview, Texas schools and South Conejos Schools in Antonito.
She was a member of United Daughters of the Confederacy, Presbyterian Women, Conejos County Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her loving husband Richard J. Gilbreth of Alamosa; their children Richard (Christi) Gilbreth of Boyd, Texas, Mary Ann (Michael) Porter of Alamosa, Zane (Vikki) Gilbreth of Colorado Springs; her brother Guy (Sami) Lockhart ; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and one more on the way; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Her grandchildren believed that "Mamma" could fix anything from patched pants, skinned knees, broken toys, to as far as their imaginations could run. Betty was respected by all who knew her for her calmness in a storm, her incredible high level of intellect, and her love and knowledge of all her family and friends. Betty is preceded in death by daughter Susan, her parents, and her sisters Mary Childers and Barbara Blair.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. A second Memorial Service will take place at Quail, Texas Cemetery in the springtime. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to Quail Cemetery, Presbyterian Women of Antonito, FUMC of Alamosa, or a charity of choice.
