Obituary for Marie Elizabeth Szkalak

Former Alamosa educator and theater coach Marie Elizabeth (Carr) Szkalak, 69, passed away on November 28, 2016. Marie worked in the Alamosa School District for 32 years. She was loved by everyone in the community and her family.

She is survived by her sisters Shirley Mae (Carr) Thomas 63, Linda Louise (Carr) Muller 59, Briget Eileen (Carr) Sanfilippo 55, and her brothers Eric Anders Carr 57, David Patrick Carr 55 and her son Justin Bradley Szkalak 40 a former Army Ranger.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents Bradley Weldon Carr, Shirley Anderson Carr, her daughter Alanna Marie Szkalak, her sister Helen Mary (Carr) Fuller and her brothers James Bradley Carr, and Michael John Carr.

Cremation was selected and two gatherings will be held. Former students have planned a gathering at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday December 4, 2016 at the Alamosa High School Theater. A second gathering will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday January 7, 2017 also at the theater. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Marie Szkalak Theater Project and may be made in care of the funeral home office.
