Obituary for William Michael "Mike" Widger

William Michael Widger “Mike” passed away January 24, 2013. Mike was born on May 12, 1955 in Monte Vista, Colorado the son of Paul and Bobbie Widger. He married Karen (Hensley) Widger on July 26, 1974. He was blessed with one son Jay, and daughter Leslie. Two granddaughters (who were the light of his life) D’Anna and Nicki.
Mike grew up farming and farming was truly his life. He was always up before sun light and worked passed the sunset. His Mom said she could never get up early enough or go to bed late enough for Mike, he had so much energy, and she prayed he would have a child just like himself. Work was his passion whether he was planting, windrowing, baling, or helping someone else, he had to be busy.
Mike was born as William Michael Widger, but most people knew him as Mike. Mike was the rock for the family, and they will truly miss him.
When Mike started going with Karen he found out she was a twin. After they got married he went to tell Karen something in her ear, and when she turned around, found out it was Sharon. From that day on he looked to make sure who he was talking to. Mike was a PER of the Monte Vista Elks Lodge and worked hard for the organization. He was proud of his accomplishments in the organization. He loved calling BINGO, and made many friends with the bingo people. He also helped Karen with all her clubs that she was in.
He is survived by his mother Bobbie Reinhardt of Alamosa; his wife Karen Widger of Monte Vista; their children Jay Widger and Leslie Widger, both of Monte Vista; his grandchildren D’Anna and Nicki Widger; his sister Christine (Kevin) Anderson of Colorado Springs; his brother David (Kalli) Widger of Monte Vista and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
His father Paul Dennis Widger, Jr. preceded him in death.
Cremation was chosen and a Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 30th at the First Christian Church in Monte Vista. Contributions in Mike’s memory may be made to either Hospice del Valle in Alamosa or to the Clem Audin Fund at the Elks Lodge in Monte Vista.
