William Wallace Flutcher (70), known as Wally, passed away on Friday, November 30 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa Colorado. He was born on May 10, 1942 in Pueblo Colorado and was a proud graduate of Pueblo’s Centennial High School, class of 1960. As a young man, he served actively in the Colorado National Guard, and was a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He married his wife Sylvia on December 18, 1971 in Ft. Collins Colorado.
Wally started his career in center pivot irrigation at Enesco Corporation in Colorado Springs. He later spent several years with Lockwood, which led him to reside in Dalhart Texas for a short period of time, and eventually inspired a move to the San Luis Valley in 1976, where he managed the Monte Vista Lockwood branch. In 1980 he formed his own small business, Alpine Irrigation, which cemented his family’s long time residence in Monte Vista.
Flight always fascinated Wally, even at a very young age. This passion for flying inspired many of his hobbies, which included single engine recreational flying, radio controlled airplane flight, and raising and racing homing pigeons. He also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and working in his yard. Time spent in his yard and on his deck resulted in many friendly conversations and good times with his friends and neighbors, whom he considered extended family. The tight bonds made with many community members were a direct result of Wally’s outgoing nature. Wally connected with all those who met him, and he will be greatly missed by many whom knew him casually, as well as those who knew him well.
Wally was a loving and well-respected family man and a lifetime Episcopalian. His humor, generosity, and general good nature were evident in his 40 years as an exceptional husband and 36 years as an exemplary father. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Davis Flutcher, and his Mother, Lizabeth Wallace Flutcher McCorkle. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Stuart Flutcher, daughter Kyla Flutcher Kiburis (Scott), son Seth Wallace Flutcher (Rachel) and grandsons Jackson Stuart (11) and William Scott (8) Kiburis. He is also survived by sister Lynne Vetta (Tony), nephew Andrew Fox, niece Stacy Richards, and grandnephew Andy Fox.
A service celebrating Wally’s life is planned for Thursday, December 6th, 2012 at the Monte Vista United Methodist Church at 10:30 am. The church is located at 215 Washington St. in Monte Vista.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Monte Vista Community Ambulance Service or the Wild Animal Sanctuary (Keensburg, CO)(www.wildanimalsanctuary.org) in Wally’s name.
