Obituary for Virgil Herman Turpin

Alamosa – Longtime Alamosa resident Virgil Herman Turpin, 91, passed away at The Bridge in Alamosa on June 27, 2015. Virgil was born to James and Lola Turpin on January 12, 1924. He married Imogene Nuccum and spent many happy years together and raised three wonderful children.
Virgil worked as an Railway Engineer for the better part of his life and truly enjoyed it. When he wasn’t working the rails it wasn’t uncommon to see him at his favorite fishing spot enjoying the day or out hunting for whatever was in season. He was an active member of the Church of Christ and went as often as he could until his health wouldn’t allow him to do so. Virgil was also a World War II veteran. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army as a gunner for two years.
Virgil is survived by his children; Betty Mccoy of Bummel, Florida, Ken (Sharon) Turpin of Alamosa, Colorado, and Sandy Firribee of Bummel, Florida. His siblings; Ruby Turpin and Welldone Turpin both of Lubbock, Texas. As well as twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife; Imogene Turpin, and his siblings; James Turpin, Dan Turpin and John Turpin.
A visitation will be held at Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Burial will take place at Hilltop Cemetery on Wednesday, July 1, 2015.
