We read, with sadness, about the death of Violet Freel. Jed and violet and their kids were an important part of our life in Hooper. Paul got to know Jed in after-school basketball games in the old Hooper gym. Paul became so fond of Jed that he named his son after him. We got to know Violet mostly after her husband's death when she moved to Hooper. We admired her for being such a good mother. She always at the Hooper school reunions. Her kids were favorites in Reddin's Grocery. One time they showed up with play money which Violet warned them was not good for anything. She was wrong. Gordon not only accepted it as payment for candy, but gave them change. This indicates how highly he thought of them.
