Obituary for Velma A. Tiernan

Velma Ann Tiernan, 93, a resident of Rio Grande Inn Nursing Center in La Jara passed away in her sleep Sunday morning December 30th 2012. She was a long time resident of Colorado, living with her daughter in Rio Rancho for 6 years until moving back to the valley in 2010.
Velma was born to Charles Patrick Wilson, and Eunice Dunn September 27th 1919 in Alamosa Colorado. She was married to Mark Aloysius Tiernan in 1945 who preceded her in death in 1955. She had been an active member of Beta Sigma Phi for 50 years, and retired from Mountain Bell Telephone as an operator for 28 years until the office closed down because of direct dial. She enjoyed Tole painting, crocheting and all kinds of arts and crafts. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and will be buried in the Old Manassa Cemetery next to the love of her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann (Franklin) Hicks of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, 5 grandchildren and 10 great grand children, Kirsten L. (Gregory) Huffaker and son G. Scott Menlo Park, California, Roger K. Hicks and sons Trevor and Tyler Rio Rancho, NM, Karin L. (David) Thompson and daughter Aspen, and son Kovin P. Sanford of Tempe, Arizona, Kristi L. (Mitchell) Jarvies and children Christopher, Matthew, Zachary, Emily, and MaKenzie of Manassa, Kacy L. (Kyde) Crawford of Rio Rancho, NM, Velma was 93 years young and has numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and friends who will miss her greatly.
A brother Charles Patrick (Doris) Wilson Jr. and 3 sisters Lora (Jack) Hill, Leona Wilson, and Arah (E.P.Bud) Corbin were waiting to usher her to her heavenly home.
A funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday January 4, 2013 at the Manassa Stake Center. There will be a viewing from 5:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday January 3rd, 2013 at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Manassa and prior to the service from 9:00-9:45 AM at the funeral home.
