Obituary for Serafin Alfredo "Fred" Montoya

Alamosa – Alamosa resident Serafin Alfredo “Fred” Montoya, 86, passed away on July 15, 2015, at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa, Colorado.
Fred was born on August 12, 1928, in Sanford, Colorado. He was the second of fifteen children born to Juan Francisco Montoya and Vincentita Chavez Montoya. He was a devout member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, watching the Colorado Rockies, and playing guitar until he could no longer do so in recent years.
He is survived by his children, Janice Montoya of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jim (Linda) Montoya of Alamosa, Rick Montoya of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Frank (Helen) Montoya of Alamosa, Mike Montoya of Alamosa, Lori (Jay) Thorne of Los Alamos, New Mexico, and Kevin (Sara) Austin of Espanola, New Mexico as well as 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Joe (Orlinda) Montoya of Fort Garland, Colorado, Gloria Maes of Fort Garland, Pete (Beverly) Montoya of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Priscilla (Pat) Bradley of Seattle, Washington, Donald Montoya of Pueblo, Colorado, Nena (Jim) White of Arvada, Colorado, Inez Gonzalez of Fort Garland, and Tony (Barbara) Montoya of Fort Garland. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, 6 siblings, his first wife Ruby Gallegos Montoya, his second wife Dorothy Austin Montoya, and 3 children, Marlene, Fredrick and Jeffrey.
Cremation was selected and a rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 19 at Sacred Heart Church in Alamosa. A funeral Mass celebrating his life will take place Monday, July 20, 10 am at Sacred Heart followed by a meal. Internment will take place after the meal in the San Acacio Cemetery.
