Obituary for Selfa A. Jaramillo

Selfa A Jaramillo, from Rio Rancho, NM, passed peacefully on December 31, 2014, in her sleep in the care of hospice, after many years of battling osteoporosis. She is survived by 6 children, Julia (David) O’Brien, Mildred (Julian) Romero, Billy (Elizabeth) Jaramillo, Rebecca Mondragon, Dorothy (Eduardo) Eastwood, Bertha (Corry) Garcia, 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 4 new grandchildren on the way. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Federico Jaramillo, and her son, George Jaramillo.
She was born in San Antonio, CO on December 27, 1928 . She celebrated her 86th birthday surrounded by those who loved her. She lived in Minturn for 48 years, in Alamosa for 8 years, and with her daughter Bertha and family for 2.5 years in Edwards, CO and Rio Rancho, NM.
She loved to crochet, embroider, do word searches, watched Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Days of our Lives, Let’s Make a Deal and the Price is Right. When she was younger she painted, drew, sang, danced and played Bingo. Her creativity was shown through her afghan blankets she made for all her children and granddaughters. She liked the Colorado Rockies and played baseball when she was younger.
She was a loving, strong, independent woman who was loved by many. She was humble, quiet, caring and faithful. She was passionate about her spirituality and relationship with God. She took care of her husband, children, and grandchildren with great pride.
Rosary will be held Monday, January 5, 2015 at 7:00 p.m., and a Catholic Mass will be on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 10:00 am, both being held at The Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 715 4th Street, Alamosa CO, 81101. Selfa will be buried at the San Antonio Cemetery, San Antonio CO , reception to follow at the parish center in Antonito. In lieu of flowers please donate in her honor to the National Osteoporosis Foundation or your local Hospice.
