Obituary for Ruth Mathes (Ruth Maddux)

Longtime San Acacio resident Ruth Mathes, 88, died July 23, 2015 at her home near San Acacio.
She married her husband of more than 60 years, Gerald Wayne Mathes, in Taos, New Mexico on December 1, 1946 during her husband’s service in the United States Army. Following his service they purchased a farm in San Acacio where they happily lived for the remainder of their days.
Ruth loved gardening, farming and just about anything else that let her dig in the dirt. Freshly dug dirt was one of her favorite smells and it will always be a reminder of her to those she loved. Another gift Ruth left behind was her love for numbers and book keeping. She was always exact to the very last cent and wasn’t happy with the books until they came out perfectly, this came in handy since she also loved shopping. Ruth was also a life long and active member of the Rebekah’s lodge and remained active until her health no longer allowed her to do so. When she wasn’t working outside Ruth loved to spend time with her family, friends, and her dogs. You will never meet another person that held the love of bulldogs like she did.
Ruth is survived by her children Garry (Martha) Mathes of San Acacio and their children: Stephanie, Alicia, Sheraa, Shenna, and Cimmarron, and great grandchildren: Gerald, Trinady, Mason and Kimimila; Garth (Kimberly) Mathes of San Acacio and their children: Cyndl, Cody, Anastasia, Sheldon and Mckenzie as well as great grandchildren Callista and Ezekiel; Machelle Sosusco of Alamosa and her children: Brittany, Bradley, Bridgett, and great grandchild Lucian; and Ginger (Rodell) Mathes-Shrout of Colorado Springs and her children: Vanessa, Kimberly, and Ashleigh; as well as numerous other family members.
Her parents, Arthur & Ollie Maddux, her husband Gerald and her great-granddaughter Brandy Mathes all preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 27 2015 at Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa at 1:00P.M.with interment to follow at the Alamosa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to any animal charity of your choice in Ruth’s Name.
