Obituary for Ruth Holman

La Jara – Longtime Sanford resident Ruth Holman, 95, passed away on March 19, 2015. She was born on April 9, 1919 in Sanford, Colorado to Orson Willard and Katie Jackson Faucett.
Ruth married A. Smith Holman on December 24, 1936 in Taos, New Mexico. They were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on January 21, 1937. Ruth was a bookkeeper for the San Luis Valley Hospital and for Alamosa National Bank for many years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many different callings in the church. She worked in the Primary and filled a Stake and Temple Mission. She also spent more than 25 years working with Extraction. Following her retirement, she became Grandma Holman to many of the Sanford kids. Family held a very dear place in her heart and she enjoyed seeing all of the kids and making sure that they had hot chocolate, toast and a place to go. Ruth enjoyed attending local sporting events and enjoyed it more if her family was involved. She also loved going fishing with her husband.
She is survived by her children, Gerald Wayne (Helen) Holman, Sharron Compton, Ann (Brent) Sowards and Jim (Linda) Holman, her grandchildren, Kirk Nelson, Sandra Nelson, Ryan Holman, Gregory Compton, Tammy Compton, Trina Compton, Steven Sowards, Melanie Miller, Jason Miller, Blake Sowards, Clare Sowards, Joshua Hendricks, Katie Hendricks, James Holman, Jr., Shayle Holman, Raymond Alan Holman, Aaron Holman, Cara Holman, Jason Holman, Casi Holman and Tori Holman, her great grandchildren Tiffany Nelson, Tyler Holman, Tobee Holman, Sharee Petrie, Cody Petrie, Jeff Compton, Tyler Compton, Sean Compton, Jacob Sowards, Ethan Sowards, Ayzlynn Sowards, Liam Sowards, Ryan Miller, Ashley Curtis, Dakoda Curtis, Kelli Miller, Emily Miller, Laurie Miller, Adam Miller, Jacy Sowards, Brynli Sowards, Mason Sowards, Troy Sowards, Lyndie Sowards, Baby boy Sowards, Madison Sowards, Noah Hendricks, Zachary Hendricks, Ezekiel Hendricks, Porter Holman, Thomas Holman, Jared Holman, Alec Holman, Baron Holman, Chaz Holman, Denver Holman, Egypt Holman and Isaac Holman, her great great grandchildren, Ammon Petrie and Cooper Petrie as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband A. Smith Holman, her daughter Mary Holman and an infant son, her grandson Jared Sowards and great grandson Bryse Sowards as well as her siblings and their spouses, Kenneth (Edna) Faucett and Gladys (Kenneth) Mortensen and son-in-law Robert Compton.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday March 24, 2015 at the Sanford First Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday March 23, 2015 at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Manassa and from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church on Tuesday prior to the services. Interment will follow the services in the Sanford Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the church Missionary fund and may be made in care of the funeral home.
