Obituary for Ruth Hilda Heersink

Longtime Alamosa resident Ruth Hilda Heersink, 88, passed away peacefully April 24, 2015 at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Alamosa.
Ruth was born on June 26, 1926 in Alamosa to Henry and Matilda Schneider Terpstra, she was one of seven children. She married Vernon Henry Heersink on Valentine’s Day in 1946 at the Alamosa Christian Reformed Church in Waverly.
Ruth worked for many years as a Cook in the kitchen at the Alamosa Hospital and made many friends during her time there. She was an active member of the Alamosa Christian Reformed Church and played the organ there for 63 years.
Ruth loved taking care of her yard and gardening. Her family appreciated her as a loving provider and mother. One of her favorite past times was playing music on her organ at home, and in her later years, Ruth enjoyed time spent with the church senior widows group.
She is survived by her children Eugene (Adrie) Heersink of Alamosa, LeRoy (Sue) Heersink of Michigan and Roger (Jennie) Heersink of Alamosa; her grandchildren Amy (Lowell) Bolt, Gina (Jim) Rutgers, Vern (Heather) Heersink, Kris Heersink, Melissa (Jeff) Ensign, Kim (Trent) Nykamp, Brian (Angela) Heersink, Pamela (Matthew) Brewington, Jordan (Nicole) Heersink; her sisters-in-law June Terpstra of Waverly and Loma Terpstra of Colorado Springs, CO; as well as 19 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers and sisters: Dorothy Parker, Edwin Terpstra, Leonard Terpstra, Marvin Terpstra, Margaret Terpstra (infant twin to Marvin) and Kenneth Terpstra.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. Private Graveside Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested in her memory to the Alamosa Christian Reformed Church, 1861 Rd 10 South, Alamosa Colorado, 81101.
