Rosie Reyes
Rose "Rosie" Marie Reyes, 89, passed away in Alamosa, Colorado, on August 7, 2015, surrounded by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julia Carson Noriega and Max C. Martinez, and her brother, Lawrence Joe Martinez. She leaves behind her eight children, Patricio, Michael, Gloria, William, Maxine, Danny, Brenda, and Mary, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Rosie also leaves behind an extensive collection of throw pillows, stuffed cats, and ceramic butterflies.
Born on January 11, 1926, Rosie was best known for her stellar tamales and the ability to speed-walk the entire length of Alamosa in a record twenty minutes. She tried driving once but realized it wasn't for her after putting the car in the ditch. She lent her cooking skills to La Puente for many years, helping to feed the less fortunate and spent the rest of her time teaching her grandkids to dance to Mexican music, and entertaining them with stories about the Great Depression and Kit Carson, her great-great grandfather. She will be remembered for her quick wit, love of Corona beer, and statement t-shirts.
A rosary for Rosie is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 7 PM, and funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 10 AM. Both will take place at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 715 E 4th Street in Alamosa, CO. Reception to follow the funeral services on Wednesday.
