Obituary for Ronald Bassett

Sanford resident Ronald Bassett, 78, passed away in his home on April 21, 2016. Ronald was born on July 16, 1937 to Virgil and Mabel Bassett in San Diego, California. He married the love of his life, Margaret Marie Knoedler, and they were sealed for time and eternity later on in their lives.

Ronald was a woodworker by trade. He made his living building beautiful log cabins and log resorts up in Canada. He worked for many years with his business partner, Rod Mortensen, and enjoyed the friendship that created. Not only was he gifted with building cabins, he was also a certified pilot and loved flying his own plane. He spent many years as a fishing resort guide and would fly clients in and out of resorts and landed right on the lake. One thing Ronald truly loved was being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved the people he met at church and nothing made him happier than spending time with each and every one of them. The tight knit Mormon community made Ronald always feel welcomed and loved and he thought there was no greater feeling.

Ronald is survived by his loving wife and eternal companion Margaret Bassett. His Children Rene’ (Randy Stade) Bassett of British Columbia, Christina (Steve Marlega) Mead of Lyons, Oregon, and Mike (Jennifer) Basset of Alamosa, Colorado. Six grandchildren, two sisters, Arleyene and Peggy. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Mabel Bassett as well as his infant brother Vernon.

Rogers Family Mortuary of Manassa have been entrusted with the arrangements. A viewing will take place on April 28, 2016 at the Sanford 2nd Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 10:00 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. with the funeral service following at 11:00 A.M.
