Longtime La Jara resident Regina “Virginia” Mott, 91, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on May 8, 2015 at her home in La Jara.
Regina was born in Las Animas, Colorado on February 28, 1924, the daughter of Nick and Julia Malouff. She married Dwayne R. Mott in Antonito on June 22, 1962.
She owned and operated Malouff’s Market in Capulin and Zip’s Market in La Jara for more than 47 years. She was active in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capulin.
Regina enjoyed cooking Lebanese food. She also liked to grow vegetables in her garden and especially enjoyed her sweet peas. In her spare time, she played many card games including “Steal Pile” and “Old Maid”. Regina also loved the mountains and spent many hours fishing and camping with her family. Her greatest love was her family and she thoroughly enjoyed the family reunions and gatherings.
She is survived by her daughter Arcilee (John) Ellison of La Jara; her grandson John Ellison of La Jara; her sister Mary Smith of Monte Vista, CO; her sister-in-law Cleta Malouff of Arizona; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Regina is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dwayne in 2001, her granddaughter Amber Ellison in 2010, her brothers: Willie, John, Frank, Nimon and Neff Malouff; her sisters Minnie McMillan, Annie Scavarda and Patricia Sivyer.
A Recitation of the Rosary will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at the St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Capulin. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015 also at the St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Capulin. Interment will follow services in the Sanford Cemetery.
