Obituary for Reba Christensen

Mary Reba Crowther Christensen was born April 24, 1926 in Sanford, Colorado, and passed away peacefully December 8, 2018 in Providence, Utah. She was preceded in death by her husband Rex Christensen, her parents Walter and Estella Crowther, three brothers Leland, Donald, and Howard Crowther and two sisters Louise Mortensen and Millie Faucette. Also preceding her in death was her granddaughter Amy Jackson. She is survived by her four children Kathy Jackson of Sanford, Donna Vance (Jim) of Tualatin, Oregon, Bart Christensen (Karen) of Lindon, Utah and Peggy Smith (Geoff) of Logan, Utah, 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Reba is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in the Louisville, Kentucky Mission in 1988-1989. Throughout her life she enjoyed serving in the Primary, Young Women, Relief Society and Sunday School. She also enjoyed the choir and music in the organizations.

In high school she played on a girls’ basketball team; was very active in 4-H, loved to ride horses and was selected Miss Conejos County for the Stampede.

She was married to Rex Lysle Christensen on June 12, 1947 in Sanford, CO after he returned from his service during WWII. Later, they were sealed as a family in the Mesa, AZ temple in 1961. Rex and Reba always loved livestock and ranch life and felt this was a wonderful place for them to raise their four children.

She also worked several years as office manager of the Medical Clinic in Alamosa for doctors Sherman D. Nichols and James W. Ruddell. Later, when she retired there were seventeen doctors in the clinic. She retired in 1982 and enjoyed being at home on the ranch helping Rex, organizing pictures, making quilts for her children and latch hook rugs for her grandchildren.

For the last 9 years she has lived near her daughter Peggy and son-in-law Geoff Smith in the Cache Valley Assisted Living Center in Providence, Utah where she has made many friends. Reba has lived a life of service to her family to her church and to her friends and neighbors.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Sanford Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. Viewings will be at Rogers Family Mortuary in Manassa on Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 6:30-8:00 P.M. and on Friday before the service from 9:30-10:45 A.M. at the church. Interment will be held in the Sanford Cemetery.
