Obituary for Randall Lee Mortensen

Longtime valley resident Randall Lee Mortensen, 73, passed away on November 1, 2014 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Randy was born on August 21, 1941 in Alamosa, Colorado to Hillard Randall and Wynona Marie Sabin Mortensen. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. Following his service, Randy returned to the valley and began his lifelong love of farming. Randy was a member of The San Luis Valley Well Owners, The Veterans of Foreign War and the American Legion.
His hobbies included photography, sports, hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, and especially supporting his children and grandchildren in all of their endeavors.
Randy is survived by his wife Leslie Jean Mortensen of the family home, children, Tharin (Christy) Mortensen and Shannon Darnall all of Center, his grandchildren; Collin Randall Mortensen, Jacob Robert Mortensen, Patrick Wayne Mortensen, Alyssa Mae Darnall and Ashley Kae Darnall, his siblings, Barbara Pottberg of Alamosa, Judy (Elbert) Couch of Las Vegas, NV, Ed (Kathy) Mortensen of Albuquerque, NM, Shelly (Deon) Russell of Sanford, Randy (Holly) Christensen of Coal Creek Canyon, CO and Paul (WynnNell) Randles of Hooper.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his parents in law Wayne and Bonnie Hutcheson, his brothers in law, Albert Couch and Deon Russell, his nieces and nephews, Rosemarie Pottberg, Stony Pottberg, Matt Pottberg, Jason Randles and Clint Randles, his brothers, Bill Mortensen and Lonnie (Sandra) Mortensen.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday November 6, 2014 at the Sangre De Cristo High School Auditorium. Burial will follow services in the Homelake Veterans Cemetery in Monte Vista. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project and may be made in care of the funeral home office.
