Center resident Paul Ivan Jones, 95, passed away on Pearl Harbor Day, December 7, 2014 while in his sleep at the Colorado Veterans Home at Homelake, Colorado, where he had been a resident for the past year. Paul was born May 15, 1919 in Alamosa, Colorado to Ivan Chester Jones and Ella Maddux Jones. Paul married the love of his life Jane Ross, and they were wed in Taos, New Mexico. Paul can now join her, as she preceded him in passing.
Paul grew up on a dairy farm in east Alamosa, graduated from Alamosa High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving from 1941-1945. He was sent to England, Ireland, North Africa, North Apennines, Rome Italy (learned to speak Italian) and then on to France. Paul was serving with the signal radar intelligence company with General Dwight D. Eisenhower. While there, Paul caught malaria and it took a few years to get over it. He mat Jane and they started housekeeping on the Co-op road south of Alamosa. Paul and Jane moved to 29 Bell as the family grew, then to 27, and 31 Bell. Paul then worked at the Oriental Refinery until it closed. He went into the Rainbo bread business and made a success at that. In 1968, he purchased the Sinclair bulk business and moved to Center. Paul retired due to breaking a hip in 1977, but it did not keep him down, he just had more time to hunt and fish. Paul was a wonderful husband, father and provider for his family.
Paul and Jane had three children, Karla Dale Jones, infant daughter died after birth, Maurice C. (Lucinda) Jones and Ivan Wade Jones. Two grandchildren Matthew Jones and Heather M. Jones, and two great-grandchildren Brittany and Logan Nye, as well as a step grandchild Nick Dupont and numerous nieces and nephews.
Paul loved to hunt and fish, go camping and ride his four-wheeler and Ski-doo where he earned the nickname of 80 doing 80. Paul took great pride in his yard and garden, spending time with his grandchildren and also great-grandchildren. Paul was a life member of the B.P.O.E. 1297, where he and Jane would go dancing and enjoy the club. He also was a member and past president of the Kiwanis where he learned to cook pancakes and sausage. From the army he learned to crack eggs two at a time, one in each hand.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, daughter and siblings Ralph, Rollin, Florence Selters and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
