Obituary for Michael Earl Stewart

Mosca resident Michael “Mike” Earl Stewart, 63, died May 7, 2013 at his home in Mosca surrounded by family and friends.
Mike was born July 7, 1949 in Del Norte, Colorado. He was the son of Charles Earl and Irene Bell Stewart. On August 12, 1967 he married Barbara Jean Ruggles in Moffat and they have been happily married 45 years.
Mike worked as a Farmer for more than 30 years, first for Carpenter Farms and then Brownell Farms. Most recently he worked for Rustic Log Furniture in Alamosa. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle, driving his Model A, and spending time at the cabin with family and friends.
Mike had a talent for woodworking and was truly an artist when it came to making things out of wood. He created many finely detailed items throughout his life.
Mike was an active member of the Mosca United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Stewart of the family home; his children Shelia (Dave) Bower of Mosca, Jaime (Jeremy) Stewart of Centennial, CO, his adopted daughter Tammy (Jason) Nelson of Denver; his grandchildren Nathan and Melissa Bower, Jake, Hannah and Molly Nelson; his sisters Valerie (Randy) Magnuson of Del Norte and Sharon Petross of Pueblo, CO; his brother Gary Stewart of Burlington, CO several nieces, nephews and extended family; as well as his special friends “the Prems” Jim Ruggles, Bill Damewood, Ron Howard and Butch Trower.
His parents, his daughter Kathy Stewart and “adopted son” Charlie Sickles preceded him in death.
Cremation was chosen and a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Alamosa. Contributions in his memory are suggested to Hospice del Valle and may be made through the funeral home office. Mike requested no flowers.
