Obituary for Larry Dean Catlin

Monte Vista resident Larry Dean Catlin, 70, passed away April 4, 2014.

Larry was the son of Verel and Blanch Catlin, born January 3, 1944 in Alamosa. On September 10, 1966 he married the love of his life Joyce McBride at the Christian Church in Montrose, Colorado. They shared 47 joyful years.

Larry graduated from Montrose High School in 1962 and enjoyed many years and awards with 4-H and Future Farmers of America. He held many outstanding offices and was most proud of his FFA state wide Vice Presidency. Larry earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy from the Colorado State University in Ft. Collins.

He enjoyed and always looked forward to talking and joking with his friends at the donut shop and Saturday morning breakfast. He also liked to play Bridge. Larry’s goal was to grow the best tomato crops in the San Luis Valley.

Larry worked for Adolph Coors for five years, 13 years for the Federal Land Bank in Monte Vista, and for another 13 years at Catlin’s Farm and Ranch Appraisals. His greatest accomplishment and joy was Catlin’s Greenhouse which he enjoyed for 40 years.

Surviving family members who were honored to share Larry’s life include his wife Joyce Catlin of Monte Vista; his sons Bradly (Lori) Catlin of Monte Vista and Brian Joe Catlin of Longmont, CO; his grandsons Kyle Catlin of Minneapolis, Kelvin Catlin of Fort Collins; his granddaughter Emily Catlin of Monte Vista; his great-granddaughter Kensley Catlin of Monte Vista; his sisters Phyllis (Marty) Scott of Wickenburg, AZ, Barbara Allen of Montrose, CO, Wallace “Bub” (Alice) Catlin of Del Norte, CO; his step-mother La Rue Catlin of Montrose, CO and his uncle and aunt Keith & Donna Catlin of Montrose.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother Blanch Catlin, his father Verel Catlin, his sister Beverly Weber and his nephew Randy Weber.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Monte Vista. Contributions in his memory are suggested to the FFA Scholarship or to the Special Olympics, either of which may be made in care of Rogers Family Mortuary, 404 Morris St., of Monte Vista, CO 81144
