Obituary for Kenneth Gordon Metz

Monte Vista resident Kenneth Metz, 93, died March 24, 2015 at The Legacy assisted living in Monte Vista.
He was born on March 30, 1921 in Monte Vista, Colorado to Mabel and Ray Metz. He married Virginia Bond on August 29, 1942 in San Mateo, California.
Kenneth attended the Colorado State University of Fort Collins and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1942. He came back to his home and started farming in 1945.
Kenneth was a member of the American Legion and the Lost Squad, Elks and the Del Monte Gun Club. He served at one point as President of the Colorado State Trap Shooting Association. He also served on the Sargent School Board and the Monte Vista District Fire Board.
Kenneth’s hobbies included golf, fishing, hunting, hiking in the mountains and any outdoor sport.
His first priority was his family. He is survived by his children Bill (Peggy) Metz, Bob (Joann) Metz and Jere (Kathy) Metz, all of Monte Vista; five grandchildren Tonya Metz, Greg (Jennifer) Metz, Michelle (Jason) Wilcox and Scott (Xochitl) Metz; as well as five great-grandchildren Quincy, Riley and Hayden Lester, Lexis and Peyton Metz; as well as a nephew Skip Perkins of Carmel Valley, California and numerous extended family and friends.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virginia and his sister Mary.
Cremation was chosen and a Celebration of Life Gathering will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at The Legacy, 100 Camino Chico Drive, in Monte Vista. Contributions are suggested to The Legacy in his memory.
