Obituary for Kathleen Lynn Morgan

Alamosa resident Kathleen Lynne Morgan, 67, passed away February 1, 2013 at her home after a long and courageous battle with cancer (multiple myeloma).
Kathleen was born in Monte Vista on June 15, 1945, the first of seven children to Virgil M. and Anna Lee Davis Hathcock. She married her husband of forty seven years, Robert A. Morgan on June 8, 1965 at the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Kathleen attended school in Monte Vista and graduated with honors from the Monte Vista High School in 1963. Following high school she worked for Mountain Bell as a telephone operator while working toward her degree in Elementary Education through Adams State College, graduating in 1967. After working as a teacher for 22 years, Kathleen earned her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Adams State College in 1989. Kathleen taught second grade for 35 years at the Sangre de Cristo Elementary School in Hooper and seldom went to town without meeting one of her former students. She took pride in reading or hearing of those student’s successes and she sorrowed when she heard of their hardships. She was a very dedicated and nurturing teacher to many.
Kathleen is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Alamosa and held many different callings and positions throughout the years. She was a long time member of the teacher’s sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma. She enjoyed working on genealogy, name extraction and indexing (digitizing genealogical records).
In her spare time, Kathleen enjoyed all kinds of crafts and made many dish scrubbers for many people including strangers she met in doctor’s waiting rooms. She loved spending time with her nieces and nephews and made it a point to get to know all of them personally. Family always came first with Kathleen.
She is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) Morgan of Alamosa; her mother Anna Lee Hathcock of Monte Vista; her brothers and sisters Larry (Margaret) Hathcock of Columbia, Louisiana, Karol (Roy) Van Horn of Alamosa, Marian (Curtis) Hart of Monte Vista, Nolan (Cindy) Hathcock of South Jordan, Utah, and Lola (Mark) Brimhall of Monte Vista; her sister-in-law Suzy Hathcock of Sandy, UT; her brothers-in-law Dr. Richard L. (Marilynn) Morgan of Chico, CA, Kenneth (Doris) Morgan of Farmington, NM and David L. (Janet) Morgan of Monte Vista; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Her father Virgil and her brother Gaylon Scott Hathcock preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday February 9, 2013 at the Alamosa Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 927 Weber Street. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday February 8, 2013 at the church and prior to the service from 9:00 a.m.-9:45 a.m. Saturday morning in the relief society room.
