Juanita Maria Guttierrez was born in Las Nutrias, New Mexico on December 8, 1936 to Tomas Salazar and Isabel Salazar (Ulibarri). Juanita married Claude Guttierrez on December of 1952 at the Santa Fe, New Mexico Cathedral. Juanita obtained an associate’s degree in early education teaching she loved to teach young children, she also taught her grandchildren how to make her delicious tortillas which will now be passed down through generations of the family. Juanita loved to socialize with her local friends, play bingo, gamble, and do her duties to the VWF Legion. She had partaken in arts and crafts, sewing and being heavily involved with her local church Saint Josephs Catholic Church in Monte Vista, Colorado such as being Eucharistic Minister for many years.

She is survived by her brothers Felix, Manuel, Henry, and her sisters Polly, and Susie. Her children Tom (Kathy) Guttierrez of Greeley, Colorado, Phillip (Bernadine) Guttierrez of Valley Springs, California, Patrick (Bernice) Guttierrez of Monte Vista, Colorado, and RoseMary (Andy) Sanchez of Gilbert, Arizona. Along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Juanita is preceded in death by her parents Tomas and Isabel Salazar her brothers Jose, Orlando, Tom, Raymond, and Horace all of Monte Vista, Colorado her sisters Carol of Olathe, Colorado, Eloisa, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Colorado and Sofia of Denver, Colorado her husband Claude Guttierrez, her two sons Michael and Claude Jr.
A Recitation of the Rosary will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista, Colorado on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. also at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista, Colorado. Burial will follow services at the Homelake Cemetery.
