Obituary for John Edward Hutchens

South Fork – South Fork resident John Edward Hutchens, 69, passed away on January 19, 2014 at his home in South Fork.
John was born on January 31, 1944 in Dodge City, Kansas to Elwyn Irvin Hutchens and Josephine Esther Garcia. John served in the United States Navy for 21 years. He married Mary Eva Martinez in Raton New Mexico in 1962. He was a member of the American Legion and the South Fork Silver Threaders 4 Wheeling Club. John enjoyed camping and four wheeling with his grandchildren, working with his Ham Radio, playing on his computer, photography, motorcycle riding and especially cherished time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Eve Hutchens of South Fork, his children, Jennifer (Frank Veliz) Hutchens of Alamosa and Donna Hutchens (Nicholson) of Monte Vista, his grandchildren; Jessie Valdez, Janet (Jeremy) Valdez, Jonathan Valdez, Jordan Hutch Nicholson, Jasper Nicholson and Jericho Nicholson, his great grandchildren; Gabriel Valdez, Amilio Valdez, Carisa Trujillo, Matthew John Trujillo and Josephine Lanae Valdez, his two special puppy companions Lady and Little Bit, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother James Edwin Hutchens.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday January 25, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. Burial will follow at the San Luis Valley Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to Children’s Hospital and may be made in care of the funeral home office.
