Obituary for James "Garland" Parker
Lakewood – Longtime Alamosa resident James “Garland” Parker, 83, passed away at St. Anthony Medical Center in Lakewood, Colorado on November 14, 2012.
Garland was born on May 28, 1929 in Salida, Colorado to Charlie and Oda Parker. He spent 10 years as a switch man for the Rio Grande Railroad. Following that he worked for 27 years for the Alamosa Police Department. Following his retirement he went back to work for 20 years with the Alamosa County Detox Center. Garland was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and he held many callings in the church. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and watching football.
He is survived by his wife Kathyrn “Kay” Parker of Alamosa, his children; Carol Parker of Alamosa and Aundy (Pepper) Martin of Denver, his grandchildren; Clayton Parker, Chad Parker, Pepper Martin and Olivia Martin along with 4 great grandchildren and one niece, Janet Burns of Castle Rock, Colorado.
Garland was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jim Parker, grandson Todd Parker, his brothers Stanley and Howard Parker and one niece Joan Sexton.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday November 19, 2012 at the Alamosa 3rd ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Alamosa. A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday evening at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. Interment will follow services in the Alamosa cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the LDS Missionary fund and may be made in care of the funeral home office.
