Obituary for Herman Miller

Lifetime resident of Sanford, Colorado, and lover of the San Luis Valley, Herman Miller peacefully passed away in Sanford, at his home, surrounded by his loving family on January 21, 2015.
Herman was born on April 3, 1921, to Willard “Bill” Richard Miller and Maggie Jane Hutchins Miller, in a small log home in Sanford. He was married to Mary June Peterson on May 3, 1942, in Sanford, and sealed in the Mesa, Arizona Temple in 1963. They were blessed with four sons—Richard Kim, David Vaughn, Steven Kay, and Wilford Glen. Herman graduated from Sanford High School. He really enjoyed history and geography. He went through the entire set of World Book Encyclopedias from cover to cover, and could tell you how many gallons per minute the Amazon River emptied into the ocean, etc., etc. Herman loved the land, and most of his occupations involved farming and ranching. Herman went from farming with teams of horses to today's modern farm equipment—quite a change. There was nothing he loved more than running a swather and he cut thousands and thousands of acres of hay. Herman was pretty well traveled for a Sanford farm boy, and saw most of the United States, visited Canada numerous times where some of his family lived, much of Europe—including London, Paris, Rome, and the major historical sites. He really enjoyed traveling. He was very proud of and thankful for his family, and routinely visited many of them on a daily basis, just keeping track of things.
Herman is survived by his wife, Mary June, his sons, Richard Kim (Lois), David Vaughn (Connnie), Steven Kay (Denise), and Wilford Glen, 19 of 22 grandchildren, and 62 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Enid (Wayne) Lindsey, Janice (Carl) Bodley, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Maggie Miller, a brother Morris (Lois) Miller, and a sister Voris (Duwayne) Cornum, three grandchildren, Richard Lee Miller, Jessee Laurette Miller, and Ryan Cass Miller.
