Obituary for Helen Lucy Reed

Helen Lucy Reed passed away on April 3rd, 2015 at the Rio Grande Inn located in La Jara, Colorado. She was born in Sanford, Colorado on July 7, 1918 to Alma LeRoy and Leah Christine Kirby. She and Othelle Reed celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary on February 16, 2015. She was preceded in death by her son Gary Reed and at a later date by her daughter, Donna Shepherd (Kenneth).
Helen is survived by her husband Othelle Reed and her sisters Virginia Tuttle and Norma Hurt. She is also survived by her son-in-law Kenneth Shepherd, daughter Lorna Whiting (Marvin), sons: James (Darlene), Paul (Marjorie), Mark (Susan), and Ray (Shanna). Helen was blessed with 31 grandchildren, 84 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Helen and Othelle served church service missions in Johannesburg, South Africa, the Chicago, Denver and Albuquerque Temples. Helen was a committed wife, mother and sister who lived to serve in the church and community throughout her life. She taught her family the importance of creating strong family ties and the joys of homemaking.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the Sanford Wards Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
