Heather Ruth Benavides, aged 59, died peacefully on June 8, 2015 at San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center, after a brief struggle with cancer. Heather was born, March 20, 1956 in Berkeley, California, the daughter of Frank Micklewright and Ruth.
Heather thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and was very appreciative of nature. She loved to draw and paint animals, especially birds. She loved to read and write poetry. She was a very giving person, always giving to charities and the churches she attended. She was a member and an active volunteer of The Feedstore Church of Monte Vista, and the Hooper Baptist Church.
Heather received her Bachelor's degree in teaching at Adam's State University. She was an avid reader and writer and was always expanding on her knowledge. In her earlier years she attended Rhema Bible College in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She always loved to read the Bible and had many scriptures memorized.
Heather is survived by her brother Devon of Stockton, CA, her uncle Reg of Derbyshire England, her son Peter of Wasilla, Alaska, her daughter Hannah of Denver Colorado, two grandsons, and a number of other relatives and close friends.
There will be a Memorial Service at the Hooper Baptist Church at 3rd and Adams on Saturday, June 13, at 2:00 PM.
