Obituary for H. LaMont Morgan

La Mont was born on May 30, 1930 to Hemming Vivian and Edith (Lenington) Morgan at the family home in Sanford, CO. He grew up driving sheep, milking cows and working with his dad and uncles cutting hay with teams of horses and harvesting that hay with a pitchfork.
La Mont married Janet Eileen Peterson, his wife of 58 years, on June 27, 1956, in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were blessed with seven children, nineteen grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. He served honorably as a missionary to the Southern States Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from January 1951 to 1953. Following his missionary service, he served in the United States army from 1953 to 1955, 18 months of that time in Korea. He held numerous church callings throughout his life including Bishop of Sanford II Ward and ward missionary, a calling he cherished. Additionally, he was a farmer and sheep rancher.
La Mont loved the mountains, especially the South San Juan Wilderness Area where he summered his sheep herd and went fishing in the high lakes and Conejos Falls. He loved to cut good alfalfa. He loved to irrigate. He loved fishing, playing cards with his family, laughing, listening to Johnny Cash and telling stories. An early riser, he had a great propensity for work and instilled this work ethic in his children.
