Obituary for Grace J. Lambert

Pueblo – Past Alamosa resident Grace J. Lambert, 96, passed away on July 31, 2014 at the Life Care Center of Pueblo.
Grace was born December 7, 1917 in Kingman, Kansas, to Bernice and Arthur Rittel. She attended school in Kingman, Kansas and graduated from Manual high school in Denver, Colorado. In 1934, she married the true love of her life Eugene Lambert, a handsome young ranch hand. They left Colorado behind and started a long adventure in the construction and engineering field that took them all over the western United States until they settled in the San Luis Valley of Colorado farming as well as Gene taking the job of City Manager in Alamosa, Colorado. After Gene retired from the City Manager position, they continued ranching in Mosca, as well as raising and racing horses in Arizona during the cold winters of Colorado. They had two sons, Kenneth and Robert who traveled with them all over the western United States. Grace loved being a wife, traveling with her family, and gardening at her home in Alamosa or wherever she was. Later in life in Alamosa, she was active in the senior citizens group and traveled with them to Hawaii. She moved from Alamosa to Colorado City to be with her son Robert. She stayed in Colorado City until her health declined and she went to Pueblo Regent Assisted Living until she could not deal with limited care and was admitted to Life Care Center Nursing Facility of Pueblo, where she resided until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene, her son Kenneth, her brother Arthur, her daughter-in-law Minnie and most of her cousins.
Grace is survived by her son Robert of Colorado City, her daughter-in-law Joan Lambert, her siblings Doris Buttram, Gayle Honey, Ted Rittel and granddaughter Michelle Wood of Anchorage Alaska as well as four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
She will be missed and remembered by all who knew her as a kind, loving, strong woman, a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. WE LOVE YOU MOM!
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Alamosa Cemetery.
