Obituary for Geraldine Cantrell

Geraldine Cantrell
Geraldine (Gerry) Cantrell, 88, passed away at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa on June 26, 2016. Gerry was born on November 2, 1927 in Nashville Tennessee to William and Hallie Morring. She married Thomas E. Cantrell and raised two wonderful sons together. They spent many years of happy marriage until Thomas’s passing in 2005.

Gerry was a very ambitious and independent woman and nothing seemed to slow her down or stop her when she put her mind to it. One of Gerry’s favorite talking points was she and Tom were the first permanent residents of the Wild Horse Mesa Community. She stayed active in that community and continued “living off the grid” in her home there until her failing health made it unsafe to do so. Gerry also graduated college with a Bachelors degree in Arts and continually used it not just for personal enjoyment but to help teach others how to paint, do ceramics or many other kinds of crafts. Other items of enjoyment included taking pictures, traveling, reading and playing the organ, which she did quite well.

Gerry is survived by her daughter-in-law’s Cindy Cantrell of Georgia and Pattie Cantrell of Nebraska, three granddaughters, three great-granddaughters, as well as other family members and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Hallie Morring, husband Thomas E. Cantrell and her son’s Michael Glenn Cantrell and Dennis Wayne Cantrell.

Gerry’s final wishes included cremation. A memorial service in her honor will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Alamosa on Thursday, July 7, 2016 beginning at 1:00 pm .

Rogers Family Mortuary is in care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations are encouraged to be made in Gerry’s honor to San Luis Care Center in Alamosa, Colorado.
