Longtime Alamosa resident Gerald “Jerry” R. Mercier, 82, passed away at the San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center in Alamosa on October 13, 2016.

Jerry was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Leo and Esther Ronning Mercier on August 15, 1934. He married his wife of more than 53 years, Ernestine DeHerrera on August 17, 1963 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jerry served the residents of Alamosa and the San Luis Valley as a Chiropractor for more than 44 years. Throughout the many years as a Chiropractor, Jerry enjoyed people and never met a stranger. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and had a knack of making each of his children feel like they were the most treasured in his life. He tried to stay active for most his life and was a lifelong learner. He was a fervent fan of the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife Ernestine Mercier of Alamosa; his children Michael (Susan) Mercier of Lafayette, CO, Mishelle (Fernando) Macias of Aurora, CO, Alex (Stacie) Mercier of Niwot, CO and Mary (Rodney) Green of Elk Grove, CA; his grandchildren Xavier, Michael, Lauren, Emily, Jarrod, Abigail, Allison and Alex; as well as his brother Laurence Mercier of Grand Rapids, Minnesota and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Leo and Esther and his brother Leo Mercier, Jr.
