Obituary for Genevieve Mildred Meyer (Sullivan)

Genevieve Meyer, 91, passed away July 3, 2015 at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Alamosa.

Genevieve was born in 1924 in Denver, CO to Raymond and Edna Sullivan. She moved to Creede with her grandmother in 1930. She graduated from Creede High School in 1942. That same year, she married Charles Slaght and they had two daughters – Pat Hansen (Alfred) and Nancy Ott (Don). Charles was killed in 1958 in an accident. Genevieve was appointed Mineral County Assessor to fulfill her husband’s term and went on to win two more 2 year terms. In 1960, she married Ed Hargraves and they had a daughter in 1965 – Kim Tyrrell (Todd). This union lasted 22 years. In 1996 she married James O. Meyer and they moved to Eckert, CO. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge since 1949 and after moving to Eckert she joined the Cedaredge Rebekah Lodge as an associate member. Besides her three daughters, she is survived Alfred Hansen of Monte Vista, whom she raised while in high school; her grandchildren: Shawn Hansen, Tony Ott, Brian Ott, Kurtis Ott and Ethan Tyrrell; her great-grandchildren: Ritchell, Heathery Lyn, Christopher, Jessica, Nathaniel Edward, Jane Genevieve and Chloe; as well as her half brother Robert Stemmons of Denver.

Genevieve is preceded in death by her parents, her grandmother Anna M. Nelson who raised her, her first husband Charles, and her uncles that she was very close to: Erick, Max, Jan and Harold Nelson.
A Graveside Service will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the Creede Cemetery in Creede, Colorado. Contributions are suggested to the Ladies Aid Organization in Creede, CO.
