Obituary for Fumiko Kunugi

Blanca resident, Fumiko Kunugi, 91, died April 21, 2013 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa.
Fumiko was born in Ovid, Colorado on December 22, 1921, the daughter of Kikutaro and Masuye Fujita Tanaka. She married Kiyoshi George Kunugi on February 21, 1948 and they enjoyed 45 years together until his death in 1993.
Fumiko graduated from Blanca High School as Salutatorian in 1940. She worked as co-owner/operator of Kunugi Farms with her husband and sons. She was known for her "small" garden, and her Farmer's Market/Truck Farm business. She also loved cooking for family and friends.
Fumiko is survived by her two sons: Byron (Deanna) Kunugi and Alvin (Amy) Kunugi, both of Blanca; her grandchildren: Jacob, Cade and Raquel Kunugi, and Melanie Merritt, all of Blanca; her great-granddaughter Mauraka Smith of Alamosa; her sister Namiko (Tad) Murakami of Torrance, CA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Her parents, her sister and brothers: Kikuye Hayashi, Satoshi Tanaka, Kikumatsu Tanaka, Morris Tanaka, Carl Tanaka; and her grandson, Paul Copeland, all preceded her in death.
A Visitation will be held Friday, April 26th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27th at the Alamosa Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment will follow services at Alamosa Cemetery
