Freda Lorraine Hagan
Freda Lorraine (Broyles) Hagan, 90, of Monte Vista, Colorado died September 19, 2016 while residing at the Monte Vista Estates care center in Monte Vista. She was born in Antonito, Colorado on January 20, 1926 to Charles (Ed) Broyles, Sr., and Mary Ann (Nance) Broyles.

Both sides of Freda’s family were early pioneers in the San Luis Valley. Her maternal grandparents traveled from North Carolina to Manassa in a covered wagon, and her paternal grandfather came to Del Norte to practice law before making his home in Conejos Canyon. Her paternal grandmother was the first public school teacher in San Acacio.

Freda graduated from Antonito High School In 1945. Having worked during high school as a part-time telephone operator, she began full-time work with Mountain Bell a few months after graduation. When the Antonito switchboard was closed in 1956, she transferred to the Alamosa office, and worked there until her retirement in 1976.

Freda met the love of her life, Charles (Chuck) Hagan, while they both worked for the telephone company, and they were married May 15, 1976. Inseparable companions, they enjoyed working the family farm south of Monte Vista and traveling together until Chuck passed away in 2004.

Freda was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she served faithfully in the genealogy program and other callings. She will be missed by all who knew her.
