Obituary for Ethel Kester

Ethel Kester passed peacefully from this life on August 31, 2013 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. She was born in Blanca, Colorado on May 27, 1912 to Arthur Franklin Taylor and Lilly May Moorhead Taylor. She was one of 11 children. Ethel grew up in the Blanca area where she attended school, married and raised her family. She was united in marriage to Cecil Frank Kester on June 17, 1931. They were the proud parents of Sara Mae Kester Souers, William “Bill” Kester, and Eleanor Kester Camp.
In the early years of their marriage, Ethel and Frank farmed, then operated the Cottage Café in Blanca. Ethel also drove the school bus, cooked for the school district, recorded the daily weather information for numerous years, and was a bookkeeper. She enjoyed fishing, playing card games, jigsaw puzzles, crafts, gardening and especially spending time with her family and friends. Ethel was a member of the United for Christ Community Church in Blanca.
She is survived by daughter Eleanor (Eldon) Camp, her son William (Rosalee) Kester, her sister Betty (Robert) Hufman numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild. Ethel leaves a legacy of love for family and friends
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank, 9 siblings and daughter Sara. A viewing will be held at Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa, Colorado Friday, September 6, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. and Saturday, September 7 from 11:45-12:45 P.M. at the Church. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at the United for Christ Community Church in Blanca. Interment will follow at the Blanca Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to the Blanca Cemetery Fund in care of Rogers Family Mortuary.
