Obituary for Ernestine Carolyn Martinez

Alamosa – Longtime Alamosa resident Ernestine Carolyn Martinez, 67, passed away on March 16, 2014. She was born on May 22, 1946 in Alamosa, Colorado to Pilar and Claudina Medina Sanchez.
Ernestine grew up in Alamosa, Colorado. She graduated from Alamosa high school and went on to graduate from Adams State College. She enjoyed going to church, listening to Elvis, going out on picnics, reading, checking her facebook and playing the games on her phone, attending yard sales and auctions, but above all of this, she truly treasured the time spent with her grandchildren and family.
She is survived by her children; Catherine Martinez of Alamosa, Valeria (Billy McColm) Martinez of Alamosa, Melody (James) Martinez-Stoeber of Monte Vista, Elizabeth (Joseph Lopez) Martinez of Alamosa and Ricky Dean of Alamosa, her grandchildren; Phillip Dean, Richard Dean, Jasmine Martinez-Lopez and Alejandrino Martinez-Stoeber, her siblings; Johnny (Cheryl) Sanchez of San Antonio, Texas, Billy (Debbie) Sanchez of Denver, Wayne Sanchez of Alamosa and Precilla (Anthony) Archuleta of Alamosa, as well as her ex husband Richard Martinez and her niece and God-Daughter Tracy E. Archuleta.
Ernestine was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Mary Jane Martinez and her sister-in-law Lori Sanchez.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday March 21, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday March 20, 2014 also at the church. Burial will follow the services in the Alamosa Cemetery. Contributions are suggested in Ernestine’s memory to the family and may be given through Rogers Family Mortuary.
