Obituary for Ella G. Hand Grazier Painter

Ella Gretta Hand Grazier Painter made her final earthly journey to her Heavenly Home on May 28, 2014. She had been living at Juniper Village in Monte Vista. Ella was born December 31, 1925 in Tyrone, Pennsylvania to Paul E Hand and Rhoda Laird Hand. She met and married the love of her life Sam Grazier in June of 1947 in Tyrone and they had the first of their 5 children there, Paul. She and Sam moved to Colorado in 1951. Rhoda, Carl, Cheryl and Shirleen soon followed to complete this amazing family. Sam passed away in 1976 and Ella was lucky enough to find a second love in Truman Painter. They were married in 1983 and enjoyed traveling on their motorcycle throughout the United States and Canada.
Ella was a long time member of the United Methodist Church serving as the Secretary for over 20 years and serving in many other positions as well.
She spent many years being a band parent for the Monte Vista High School Marching Band and went on many band trips. She was also a Cub Scout leader and helped Sam with his Boy Scout troop. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She also baked cakes for many, many people and took great pride in that. She enjoyed the outdoors and snow birding to Arizona for many winters.
She is preceded in death by her husbands Sam Grazier and Truman Painter, daughter Shirleen Grazier, great granddaughter Kalista, brother Carl G Hand, and sister and brother in law Shirley and Bob Grazier.
She is survived by her children Paul (Linda) Grazier of Denton, TX, Rhoda (Adrian) Getz of Alamosa, CO, Carl (Susan) Grazier of Rio Rancho, NM and Cheryl (Buck) Worker of Gallup, NM. 8 Grandchildren, 14 ½ great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. 3 Step-children, Loretta (Jack) Holland of Monte Vista, CO, Sherry (Jim) Bertrand of Alamosa, CO and Robin (Mindy) Painter of Alamosa, CO and numerous step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Monte Vista. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the Monte Vista United Methodist Church. Interment will follow services in the Monte Vista Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Hospice Del Valle and may be made through the funeral home office.
