Obituary for Dwane Alvis Dillon

On May 24, 2014 the angels came to escort a great man into the heavens. Dwane Alvis Dillon was born on August 20, 1923 on the family farm near Center, Colorado. He graduated from Center High School and served in World War II promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant. Some of that training he distributed throughout his life. He met and married the love of his life, Betty Marie Noffsinger, on February 2, 1947 at the Methodist Church in Center, Colorado. This union would be the beginning of the life and times of a farmer.
Dewey, as he was affectionately named, was a man of integrity, commitment and determination to overcome any obstacle. He endured many tough times as many farmers did. Dewey was very proud to grow Coors barley for 66 years, and near retirement Coors awarded him as the oldest living grower of Coors barley in Colorado – he at the young age of 86. Farming and family were his life but his free spirit drove him to try new adventures at any age. Some of his favorites were hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, horseback riding and teaching the younger generations that age is a matter of mind.
Dewey leaves behind his wife of 67 years, two living children, Stevan (Wendy) of Brisbane, Australia and Susan of Center, Colorado. Also surviving are four grandchildren who cherished their grandfather and marveled at all of his stories, as well as ten great grandchildren, one sister, nieces and nephews.
Dewey was preceded in death by his son David on November 30, 1950. Dewy will now hold him in his arms once again and they will walk hand in hand with no pain or suffering, only love and laughter.
Dewey chose cremation with no services. He wanted to be remembered as the strong healthy man he had always been. Dewey won’t be easily forgotten. He was a humble man and never met a stranger. His laughter will remain in the hearts of many people who knew him. Dewey loved to share his pranks on anyone who hadn’t had the opportunity to have been his prey. Dewey requested that in lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Conour Animal Shelter in his memory.
