Obituary for Douglas Eugene Wert

On January 7, 2013, Doug Wert, 68, passed away suddenly in Center, Colorado. He was born on September 22, 1944 in Monte Vista to Leland and Wilma Wert. He married Judy Hart on August 22, 1964 in Monte Vista, Colorado. They had three beautiful daughters.
Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, going to the cabin, spending time with his family and going to Laughlin with Judy. He also loved taking care of his beautiful yard and home. Another of his favorite pass-times was going to his grandsons sporting events and supporting them in their activities and hobbies. He never missed a chance to be with the boys whether it was teaching them to hunt and fish or just being with them.
He worked for the fruit and vegetable inspection service for 28 years and retired in 1999. Not being able to sit idle, he almost immediately went to work with Skyline Potato, where he worked in potato procurement.
Doug is survived by his spouse Judy Wert, daughters; Connie (Terry) VanBibber, of Monte Vista, Kim (Matt) Baker of Colorado Springs, grandsons; TJ (Skyla) VanBibber, Trent Van Bibber, Dalton Baker and Logan Baker, his brother Ron (Sally) Wert, nieces and nephew; Lonnie (Zach) Gillespie, LaVonda (Aaron) Castillo, Denise Heersink, Chris (Dorothea) Schockey, Lori (Rod) Kehler, Sheri (Todd) Lasher, great nieces and nephews; Jace Bogle, Samantha Bogle, Blaine Gillespie, Corbin Castillo, Samantha Taylor, Billy Jay Taylor, Ashley Taylor, Jared Lasher, Haylee Lasher, Victoria Schockey and Alexandra Schockey.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Tandi Wert, his parents Leland and Wilma Wert and his grandma Elsie Goad as well as his mother and father in-law Tommy and Bert Hart.
Cremation was selected and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday January 11, 2013 at the Monte Vista United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the Monte Vista Animal Shelter and may be made in care of the funeral home office.
The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and kindness during this difficult time.
