Obituary for Dorthy LuElla Powers

Alamosa and former Portales, New Mexico resident Dorthy LuElla Powers, 70, passed away on June 7, 2013 at the Western Plains Medical Center in Dodge City, Kansas.
LuElla was born in Portales, New Mexico on June 3, 1943 to Claude and Ruth Brown Cooper. She married Lee Roy Powers on September 23, 1962 at the West Side Baptist Church in Portales. They shared more than 50 inseparable years together.
LuElla worked for 24 years and retired as a Secretary to the President of the Library at the Eastern New Mexico University. She was an active member of the Hooper Baptist Church and was a member of The Gideons International Ladies Auxiliary.
In her spare time she enjoyed reading and crocheting.
LuElla is survived by her loving husband Lee Roy Powers of Alamosa; her daughter Vonetta (Robert) Behrens of Alamosa; her grandchildren Taber (Carol) Powers of Bayfield, CO, Terence Scarborough of Alamosa, Brydget Behrens of Orlando, FL and Apryl Behrens of Alamosa; her great-granddaughter Tabytha Elizabeth Powers of Bayfield, CO; her brother and sisters Billy F. (Lois) Cooper of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Claudie Ruth Hensley and Marcella (Ted) Bailey, both of Portales, New Mexico; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Her parents and her daughter Elizabeth Ann Powers preceded her in death.
A visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 13th at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 14th at the College Heights Baptist Church in Alamosa. Interment will follow services in the Alamosa Cemetery. Contributions in her memory are suggested to the Hooper Baptist Church or to the The Gideons International Ladies Auxiliary, and may be made through the funeral home office.
