Obituary for Donna Marie Broyles

Alamosa – Donna Marie Smith Broyles, 76, died March 2, 2015 surrounded by love and family. She was born on April 4, 1938 to Dallas Henry and Florence Irene Vandiver Smith. Her first two siblings Dwain and Constance died in infancy. She grew up south of Manassa with her younger brothers, Larry (Maxine) Smith and James (Norene) Smith. She spent many hours on the hill and down by the river with her brothers and cousins.
She married Robert Augustus Broyles on February 24, 1954 in Taos, New Mexico. To this union were born 5 children, Bobbie Lee, who died in infancy, Lorena (Mike) Peterson, Leah (Ed) Creery, Arron (Tammy) Broyles and Dallas Broyles. She has 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and took great pride in her home and family. Her grandma Eva taught her how to fish and she could spend hours on the bank of a river or lake waiting for the fish to bite. She passed on her love of fishing to her children and grandchildren.
Donna was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was sealed to her husband, Robert, for time and all eternity in the Albuquerque Temple on February 21, 2004. She served many callings and especially enjoyed teaching primary and spending time with the 10-11 year old girls. Donna was in charge of the Dry Pack Cannery for many years. She loved to visit and enjoyed meeting new people. She was loved and will be missed by so many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother James and granddaughter Jennifer Creery.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday March 5, 2015 at the Manassa 1st Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Manassa on Wednesday March 4, 2015 and prior to the services on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home in Manassa. Interment will follow services in the Manassa Cemetery.
