Long time and well-known Alamosa resident Don Wuckert passed away in the early morning of March 13, 2013 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center.
Donald James Wuckert was born on February 7, 1926 in Sterling, Colorado to Herman and Elizabeth Werner Wuckert. He was always proud of his German heritage as his parents were early German- Russian immigrants
He met and married the love of his life, Gloria Mott, on June 25th, 1950 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alamosa where he was a member.
In his professional life, Don co-owned Home Lumber Company, First National Bank, Alamosa Plaza Apartments, and Apple Tree Storage, among other business ventures.
Don was known for his honesty, humor, generosity, hard work, and service to the community and to his family. He loved all sports, especially golf and following the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies. He enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in Del Norte, spending time with his grandchildren, and sharing coffee and cards with his friends. He had a passion for lumber and wood and always had a beautiful, weed-free garden until he gave in to the local deer and squirrels.
As a veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a communication specialist and he was a member of the 464th Bomb Squadron. Don was a lifelong member of the America Legion Post 113 in Alamosa.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Edward "Hap" Wuckert.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria, children Alan (Janice) Wuckert, Murray, Utah, and Pamela (Chris) Morgan, Draper, Utah. His grandchildren are Heidi (Quinton) German, Kristjan (Stephanie) Morgan, Nicholas Morgan, Taylor Wuckert, and Caitlin (Sam) Ingram, and great-grandchildren Maren and Porter German.
A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, March 15th at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 16th at the Alamosa Fourth Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 927 Weber Street in Alamosa. Interment with military honors will follow the services at the Alamosa Cemetery.
Don was a major supporter of Adams State University Athletics (lifetime Grizzly Club member) and SLV Regional Medical Center in Alamosa. Contributions in his memory are welcomed by the Adams State Foundation (Athletics) or to the SLV Regional Medical Center.
