Colorado Springs – Center resident Delfino John “Sonny” Martinez, Jr., 60, passed away on May 6, 2016 in Colorado Springs. He was born on September 23, 1955 in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Delfino John Martinez, Sr. and Isabelle Martinez. He was one of the youngest siblings out of nine children. Sonny served his country in the United States Army. He enjoyed fishing, hiking, camping, yard work, cooking, being involved at St. Jerome Catholic Parish in Center and especially spending time with his grandchildren and his family. Many people will also miss their haircuts, to some he was their barber.

Sonny is survived by his sons; Jason Martinez of Colorado Springs, Joshua Martinez of Center, Joseph (Brianne) Martinez of Center, Justin (Monica) Martinez of Center, Jeremiah (Melanie) Martinez of Center and Jonathan Martinez of Pueblo, his life partner and the mother of his children, Karrie Martinez, his grandchildren; Jaden, Jordyn, Liam, Charli, Presley, Frankie, Oceana, Joshua, Jeremiah, Jr., Zoe, Jaceyian, Mya and Ayla, his siblings; Greg Grimaldo, Dolores Lopez, Frank Grimaldo, James Grimaldo, Kathy Sierra, Rose Nava and Lisa Martinez as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother William Grimaldo and his nephews, Isaac Sierra, Edward Lopez and Angel Sierra.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday May 13, 2016 at St. Francis Jerome Catholic Parish in Center. A Vigil Service with recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday May 12, 2016 also at the church. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Monte Vista. Interment will follow services in the Colorado State Veterans Cemetery at Homelake.
