Obituary for David William "William Harris" Harris

David William "William Harris" Harris
David William Harris II passed away on July 20th at his home in Creede, Colorado. He had been surrounded by loving friends & family the days surrounding his passing.

William was born on October 17th, 1945 to David William & Dorothy Louise Harris in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was the oldest of 4 siblings. They later moved to Longview, Texas where William attended school at Pine Tree. He played the trumpet in the band and graduated in 1963. William attended Kilgore College which is where he met his wife, Lynn, and they married in 1964. William worked for the family owned business, Harris Industries, where they made iron castings from 1958 – 1988. He retired as President of the company. After leaving Harris Industries, William and Lynn lived in Florida for a short time before moving to Carrollton, Texas in 1990. William was not the retiring kind and went back to work this time for Hensley Industries in Dallas. In 1994, William officially retired and he and Lynn decided to travel. After a couple of years of travel, they moved to Liberty City, TX until 2002. In 2002 they decided to leave Texas for cooler weather in the mountains of Creede, Colorado, which is a place they fell in love with while traveling. Once again, William went back to work, this time as a Realtor for Willow Creek Realty where he and Lynn owned the business and worked together. Many of the locals will miss seeing him standing out front of their business in town.

William obtained his pilot’s license and built his own Capella kit plane. He loved to fly, fish and spent many hours over the years on Lake Palestine in East Texas. He also loved to shoot pool & guns, ride motorcycles & ATV’s and read. He was always tinkering with some type of project and enjoyed lending a helping hand to friends, family and neighbors. His friends called him a character and all enjoyed giving each other a hard time.

William is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lynn Dianne Harris of Creede, his two daughters, Debra (Dee Dee) Parkhurst of Longview and Christie Kocurek of Carrollton, his three grandchildren, Joshua Parkhurst, Katharine Parkhurst, Bailey Stahl and his great grandson, Aiden Parkhurst, his two sisters Janeen Leach and Mary Miller, a niece and 3 nephews, as well as extended family.
William is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Howard Harris.

Cremation was selected and a memorial to celebrate his life will be announced at a later date.
