Obituary for Cheryl Leigh Vance

La Jara- Life time San Luis Valley resident Cheryl Leigh Vance, 67, passed away in her home outside of La Jara on January 21, 2015. Cheryl was born May 24, 1947 in Alamosa Colorado to Ralph and Alice Horton.
Cheryl had a special place in her heart for her family, her animals, and all the elderly people that she helped throughout her life. She was trained as a Certified Nurses Assistant and helped care for the elderly and took such joy in it that she continued to cut their hair and just visit with them as long as her health allowed. She would spend her nights reading books by her favorite author Stephen King, or by listening to her favorite Elvis Presley album, and of course spending lots of time on Facebook liking her children’s and friends posts and pictures. You could tell she loved hummingbirds just by stepping into her house and seeing all different types of humming bird decorations and memorabilia. But above all, Cheryl loved her grandchildren and spending time with them every chance she could get.
She is survived by her children; Shawn (Sheila) Hicks of Alamosa, Corey (Christy) Hicks of Grand Junction, Lori (Mark) Wakefield of Buena Vista, Brad ( Alma Vigil) Hicks of Alamosa, and Cara (Matt) Shepherd of Buena Vista. Her Grandchildren; Jordan Hicks, Taylor Hicks, Megan Hicks, Zach Hicks, Logan Wakefield, Peyton Wakefield, Jenna Shepherd, Carly Shepherd, and Kyle Shepherd. Her sisters, Wanda Horton of Capulin, and Debbie Neal of Bountiful. As well as her brother Randy Horton.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her twin boys Harry and Kelly Hicks. Her Parents, Ralph and Alice Horton. And her Brother, Eddie Horton.
Cremation was chosen and a committal of ashes will take place Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. in the Sanford Cemetery.
