Alamosa resident Charles (Chuck) Bertsch, 89, passed away in Alamosa, Colorado on September 1, 2016.

Chuck was born on July 20, 1927 in Alamosa, Colorado, the son of Herbert and Marjorie Bertsch. On September 14, 1948 he married Lozella Mae Maxwell in Raton, New Mexico. Chuck retired from the State of Colorado Highway Department and was a lifetime member of the Alamosa Fire Department, as well as Alamosa B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 1297. He enjoyed camping, traveling, dancing, working in his shop, spending time at Lake Navajo and Lake Powell, and many outdoor activities. Chuck was a master craftsman and welder and could build anything.

Chuck is survived by his children Beverly (Dean) Boice, Eileen (Mike) Van Iwaarden and Keith Bertsch as well as his grandchildren, Linnea (Boice) Whitehead, Jennifer (Dan) Liddell, Erin (Evan) Bardwell, Tasha Bertsch, Alan Van Iwaarden, Loreen VanIwaarden, Brandon Bertsch and Taylor Bertsch. Chuck is also survived by 8 great grandchildren and a special daughter-in-law, Cindy McMichael.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lozella, his son Kenneth, and grandsons, Casey Bertsch and Paul Boice.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at The Bridge in Alamosa at 3407 Carroll Street.
