Obituary for Charles Michael "Chuck" Archer

Charles “Chuck” Michael Archer, or as he was known by the Monte Vista Fire Department, Unit 25, went on his last call March 4, 2015.
Chuck was a lifelong resident of Monte Vista. He was born in Monte Vista on October 27, 1954 the son of Henry C. and Gladys L. Mueller Archer. He met Glenda Kay Schaefer and they were united in marriage on November 17, 1973.
Chuck began work with the Rio Grande County and soon moved to the San Luis Valley Rural Electric Cooperative (REC) as a Lineman. Over the years he worked his way up to Chief Executive Officer of the REC and retired in 2000. Chuck continued to work after his retirement in underground locating and worked on his farm growing alfalfa and raising cattle along with his son. Chuck joined the Monte Vista Fire Department in 1977 and was currently serving as Fire Chief. He was very community minded and demonstrated his love for the community by serving on the School Board, in which he was president for a time, as well as the Monte Vista Ambulance Board and various other community callings.
His greatest loves were spending time with his grandchildren and irrigating his land. In his spare time he enjoyed researching many different topics to help him, his family and his friends.
Chuck is survived by his wife Glenda Archer of Monte Vista; his mother Gladys Archer of Monte Vista; his children Kristin (Daniel) Stambaugh of Monte Vista, Traci (Steven) Chos of Mesa, AZ and Ryan Archer of Monte Vista; his grandchildren Becca, Ty and Jake, his sister Linda (Don) Archer of Greeley, CO; his mother-in-law Patricia Schaefer of Monte Vista; his brother-in-law Mike (Kim) Schaefer of Monte Vista; his sister-in-law Lynn (Ray) Widger of Longmont, CO; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and a host of friends.
Chuck was preceded in death by his father Henry and his father-in-law Robert Schaefer.
A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the Monte Vista Fire Department. Contributions in his memory are suggested to the Monte Vista Fire Department at P.O. Box 187 in Monte Vista, CO 81144.
